2020 has presented humanity with a host of global challenges, leaving us feeling out of control. Investing time into the internal work will pay dividends when you are able to sail smoothly through life’s inevitable storms. We encourage you to implement the following methods to steady your mind and spirit.
1- EARLY MORNING SUN EXPOSURE: Early sun exposure triggers the production of hormones that improve mood and calibrate your body’s circadian rhythm, making it easier to sleep at night. Sitting outside or taking a morning walk could modulate stress and dramatically increase your restorative sleep!
2- BALANCE BLOOD SUGAR: Food = mood! The rollercoaster of blood sugar highs and lows brought on by suboptimal food choices are disruptive to your mood and ability to think clearly. Eating a low-fat, fruit-based diet stabilizes blood sugar and eliminates food-based stressors.
3- REDUCE FOOD CHOICES: By simplifying your diet, you’ll make room for calm in your mind and body. Simple meals = simple digestion. Not having to think about what you prepare will remove the complexity from meal prep. Maybe this week is the perfect time to experiment with monomeals!
4- ACTIVATE THE PARASYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM: The parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS) is the body’s rest state, responsible for important behind-the-scenes work such as digestion and repair. Breathwork techniques from the Wim Hoff method, Buteyko breathing, pranayama and meditation will activate the PSNS, bringing your body out of fight or flight and into a state of healing.
5- TIME WITH ANIMALS: Not only will spending time with animals elevate your mood, but it will also foster compassion. With compassion comes love and with love—inner peace! Volunteer with a farm animal rescue sanctuary or animal shelter, or foster an animal if you are unable to adopt one.
6- COLLECTIVE PRACTICE: The energetic power of meditating, chanting or practicing yoga with others is undeniable. Harnessing collective, positive energy from group practice will raise your vibration!
There has never been a more important time to honor the health of your mind, body and spirit. Pick one or more of the tools above and commit to them for the next several months. When you do, everyone around you will benefit.
